Residential Care Accommodation
and Facilities

Our Care Home is carpeted and heated throughout, attractively decorated and fully furnished. All bedrooms have a TV point, wash basin and six rooms have en-suite facilities. Commode chairs are also available, if required.

Residents are invited to bring small personal items to add to the homelinessand individuality of each bedroom. Bathroom and toilet areas have been designed to provide space for ease of movement, maximum independence, privacy and safety.

The home also has a beautiful garden that backs onto the privately owned Shortlands Golf Club.

A roof garden/patio is accessible via the ground floor lounge area and has a lovely view over the garden. There is also a patio area accessible from the lower level lounge area.

Residents rooms are situated over three levels, which are served by a 6-person passenger lift.

Care Home Safety

Care Home Safety

Under the guidance from CQC, we are very aware of all safety requirements for the home and we seek to match and exceed these wherever possible. At The Heathers, we operate a strict ongoing staff training programme to ensure all staff are fully qualified on all aspects of care for the elderly and health and safety procedures.

Fire: A comprehensive system of smoke and heat detectors, alarm bells, extinguishers and emergency lighting has been installed in accordance with the requirements of the Local Fire Prevention Officer. The system is tested regularly, and residents are familiarised with emergency procedures on admission and again at intervals thereafter.

We operate a NO SMOKING policy throughout the home.

  • Hot Water / Heating: The hot water supply to all basins and baths within the home is governed by thermostatic valves. Low surface temperature radiators are installed throughout the home.
  • Flooring: Short-pile polypropylene carpeting has been used everywhere except for bathrooms, toilets and kitchen areas, where a non-slip vinyl floor covering has been used.
  • Call System: A wireless radio controlled call system helps manage the home, providing residents instant access to staff when required. Portable handsets are in place in every room, including en-suites, communal areas, bathrooms and toilets.
  • Catering: Our team adhere to strict catering guidelines and follow tight regulations in the preparation and handling of food. All dietary requirements are discussed and understood for each of our residents and known by all of our team. Alternative menus and choice dishes are also offered at every meal time.
  • Medication: Senior staff members are trained to dispense medication. Again, this is carried out under strict guidelines set out by the CQC and with agreement and instruction from the resident’s own GP.

Residential Admission

Residential Admission

There is no admission restriction with regard to age, gender, race or religion. As a general guide, residents should be mentally alert, continent and independently mobile (with or without walking aid). We do not consider our residential home suitable for totally wheel-chair-bound clients. Care cannot be offered to elderly people with serious and progressive mental health conditions.

Independence is actively promoted in The Heathers, but a positive attitude and a desire to be independent is considered more important than the actual ability to be so.

Every applicant should be fully involved in the admission process and ample opportunity will be given for questions and discussions about the home, as well as the client’s own needs and expectations.

Each application is assessed with regard to suitability of accommodation available, compatibility with current client group, and our ability to meet the individual’s requirements.

Respite Care, Holidays and Convalescence are possible at our home, depending on availability.

We very much look forward to welcoming you into our home. Please call us on 020 8460 6555 to arrange a visit.
